REGARDING the Billybanks Traffic Study (Penarth Times, April 5).

To say that the study was a joke is an understatement.

Crest Nicholson directors have obviously not stood between Robert Smith and the Barons Court traffic lights on any day of the week, any time of day, just to see the extent of the traffic.

Statistics are fine if you want to win an argument, for they can be arranged to suit any situation.

When, at the first display of the project at the Paget Rooms, I asked the question 'how was the traffic problem to be resolved', they had no answer then - and they have no answer now.

The Headland Link, the pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Ely - both projects are not required to the same extent as the relief of traffic congestion leaving and entering Penarth.

Money ring-fenced for these projects should be redirected to the traffic problem.

Very soon commuters will be leaving Penarth and purchasing houses outside of the area, just to avoid the hassle every morning and evening.

Then watch the house prices slump.

The obvious solution to the traffic problem surely is the Barrage crossing.

I don't know why this roadway has not been opened on the Cardiff side or why, when the Barrage was being constructed, the traffic situation was not put into the equation.

Very much a lack of foresight on the behalf of the Cardiff Bay Corporation, Cardiff Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

I appreciate that a weight restriction could be a problem but surely this could be overcome by restricting the crossing to light cars only.

The Barrage crossing: Spend money on this to give Penarth a future for its residents and to maintain the open roadway for tourism - the lifeblood of our town.
