BANK HOLIDAY traffic chaos stretched well into this week after the lights at the junction of Redlands Road, Cardiff Road and Llandough Hill failed.

Hundreds of motorists blocked the junction each day as cars swerved to force their way across the road.

And as the lights continued to stay switched off (as they were yesterday, Wednesday, at the time of going to press), locals feared the junction was an accident waiting to happen.

Mike Marsh, who works at the Merrie Harrier pub, said he was surprised no-one had been hurt.

Mr Marsh said: "All you could hear were car horns beeping all weekend.

"We had customers over the bank holiday complaining about the lights, saying some idiots were trying to force their way across the junction.

"There were also people speeding which casues havoc.

"The lights seemed to go on then go off again - which can make the early morning traffic particularly bad."

Vale of Glamorgan Council officials could not say when the lights would be fixed.

Operational Manager (Highway Maintenance) Keith Jones said: "Unfortunately, there are ongoing problems with the infrastructure at the Merrie Harrier traffic signals.

"Engineers are working to seek to resolve the situation as speedily as possible."
