Glorious sunshine ensured that a huge crowed turned out at Barbury Castle for the Tedworth point-to-point at the weekend.

Unfortunately, for the spectators only a handful of entries were on hand to thrill the crowd in one of the busiest weekends of the point-to-point season.

The Next Open was won by odds-on favourite Spiers Peace attracted just two runners as did the Open Maiden won by even-money favourite Marmot D'Estruval.

Simply Smart, the 5-4 favourite, won the three runner restricted race while a respectable eight runners went to post for the opening race on the card, won by Chaucers Miller initiating a double for jockey D Turner.

Joint secretary of the meeting Richard Denny said: "It was a pity there were not more runners.

"The course was in excellent condition but with well over 25 meetings dotted about the country unfortunately runners were scarce."
