A charity which supports children and young people with life-threatening conditions has received a major cash boost.
The Essex, Southend and Thurrock Palliative Integrated Care Children's Respite Service (EPIC) has received £22,837 funding from North East Essex NHS Primary Care Trust (PCT) for 2007/8.
Since the service was launched in 2004, it has been entirely funded by a £721,000 National Lottery grant.
On March 31, the service's lottery funding expired, leaving it in a difficult position.
The charity contacted all the PCTs in the areas where it provides services to ask for financial support.
Matt Bushell, the PCT's director of strategic development, said: "We are delighted to be able to provide vital funding to such a fantastic service."
EPIC provides home-based respite care for families across Essex, whose children and young people have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
