Staff, lining up celebrations of Southend Hospital's 75th anniversary, want to trace anyone taken by their parents to the opening ceremony in Prittlewell Chase on July 26, 1932.

Around 4,000 people gathered to witness Lord Iveagh open the doors using the latest device - an electric button.

The fundraising for the new hospital building - £122, 728 - and for new equipment was considered a great success but there was a shortfall of £50,000.

The money was donated by Lord Iveagh to the new hospital allowing it to open free of debt.

The hospital wants to hear from you if you have memories or photographs of how it felt to be part of that great occasion.

Anyone who remembers the event or has pictures can call 01702 385048.
