CSSFL Junior Div 1.

Ark 0, Whitenap 0.

Whitenap's recent winning streak was ended last Sunday morning when they were held to a frustrating goalless draw away to a workmanlike Ark side.

Playing on a hard and bumpy Mayfield Park pitch both teams struggled to play attractive football, especially with a strong wind.

Title contenders Whitenap had the better of play but, to their credit, mid-table Ark battled hard and gave the Romsey side a few scares on the break. Steve Robinson and Ian David both forced good saves from the Ark goalkeeper as the half ended goalless.

With the wind, Whitenap were confident their pressure would eventually pay dividends but Ark seemed to grow more in confidence as the game progressed.

Whitenap had to defend well to deny their hosts any clear chances with full-back Neil Brading doing well on his return.

Whitenap stepped up their search for a breakthrough but luck seemed to be on Ark's side this time as when Whitenap did get past the keeper they were still denied. Richard Sherman goalbound effort was somehow cleared off the line, Ross Whitelock's well struck effort rattled the bar.

The final stages saw Whitenap surge forward but just couldn't get the breakthrough as the woodwork again came to the home side's rescue in the final minute when a Craig Stirling header struck the bar as the game frustratingly ended in a goalless draw.

This draw keeps Whitenap's title claims on ice for a while longer and keeps the door open for their rivals Brook who if they win their games in hand can still pip Whitenap to the title.

Whitenap return to action on Sunday, April 15, when they visit Southampton City at Green Park, Millbrook.
