I thought long and hard about voting Labour last week and I am sure I'm not the only one.

I considered voting for the Conservatives, but decided that even though I was dissatisfied with the Labour party, the Tories hadn't done enough to deserve my vote.

I have asked local Conservative councillors many questions about the direction they want to take Bury and have yet to receive a convincing answer. Their general view can be summarised as vote for us and we'll make it better'. They don't specify how.

The letter from former Conservative candidate Geoffrey Berg in your newspaper just about summed it up.

"Despite their shortcomings," he said, "the Conservatives should still be voted into control of Bury Council even if it is perhaps more in hope than in expectation of better things".

Labour need to go away and learn from this and change fast.

The Tories need to start campaigning in the spirit of positive politics and stop counting on protest votes.

Only when these changes have been implemented will politics start to really matter again.
