A GROUP of 10 cyclists will be travelling through East Lancashire this weekend to promote their Going Carbon Neutral' scheme.

Their aim is to encourage local communities to take positive steps in reducing carbon emissions.

On Sunday, they will set off from Ashton Hayes, near Chester, on a 300-mile journey north to Riverside in Stirling, Scotland.

They will cycle their way through Tockholes, Lower Darwen, Oswaldtwistle and Great Harwood, before stopping at Whalley, where they will hold an event on the Going Carbon Neutral theme, as well as in Kirkby Stephen, Langholm and Biggar.

The cyclists will be staying at Whalley Methodist Church on Sunday night, where they will stage a meeting at 8pm about carbon neutrality, and its importance.

Going Carbon Neutral was first established in November last year and is an organisation which tries to tackle climate change and high energy bills by lowering our carbon footprint'.

It has worked with community groups in Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Its next step is to carry out an energy study this year to explore which options can be used to improve the energy efficiency of homes and waste less energy.

Caroline Butterfield, the bike ride organiser, said. "With two kids, I feel responsible for the world I will leave them with."
