York's action-packed Dante meeting this week is followed by another big day at Newbury on Saturday, where the feature race is the £200,000 Group 1 Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes.

Sir Michael Stoute had a field day at the corresponding fixture last year and the yard is currently firing on all cylinders, so don't be surprised to see Peeress land back to back victories in the Lockinge, which is run over the straight one-mile course. Red Evie, one of the most progressive horses in training last season, won't be far away.

Roger Charlton's Group Captain and John Gosden's Day Flight are two for the shortlist in the extended 1m 5f race at 2.10, while in the 1m 2f Paddy Power Gold Cup for three-year-olds over 1m 2f at 3.15, Stoute goes for another back to back success with Regal Flush.

I give Intrepid Jack a decent each way chance in the six furlongs handicap at 3.50, while pick of the day at Newmarket on an extremely competitive day could be the William Haggas-trained Hassaad in the televised one mile handicap at 2.25.

The third successive Saturday meeting at Thirsk takes place this weekend, when racing is scheduled to begin at 2.05 with a contest for two-year-old fillies.

Southern raiders must always be respected at the North Yorkshire track and, given a good draw and support in the market, Sir Mark Prescott's newcomer Drastic Measure could well get punters off to a good start.

Local trainers Mark Johnston and Kevin Ryan are represented with multiple entries and it will be surprising if at least one of them doesn't make the winner's enclosure. Of the big stables who are sending horses north, take note of both Luca Cumani's Samurai Way and Henry Cecil's Templestern in the 1m 4f maiden race at 2.35, along with Walter Swinburn's Mighty Missouri in the one-mile handicap half an hour later.

Cecil has also entered Practicallyper-fect in the one mile handicap for three-year-olds at 3.40 and if Peter Chapple-Hyam decides to run Cat de Mille and Mick Channon Shot Gun, these three could well head the market.
