People in Haringey have been asked to keep the borough green by reusing their bath water.

Haringey Council has planted more than 500 new trees in the past five months and, while it has promised to keep them well watered during the hot summer months, it is also asking residents to do their bit to help a tree, and save their bath water.

Councillor Brian Haley, executive member for environment and conservation, said: "We hope residents will help us in our drive to improve the environment by watering the new trees with appropriate waste water during the hotter summer months."

The new trees can be found at a variety of places, including streets, parks and housing estates, and all of them will be monitored by council staff throughout the summer.

Mr Haley is positive that the trees will improve the borough's overall environment. He said: "We are very pleased to have introduced hundreds of trees to roads, parks and estates across Haringey during the planting season.

"Trees can make a huge difference, not only to the appearance of the borough, but also to residents' feelings about where they live."

Residents are also asked to report any diseased or damaged trees to the council.
