Nineteen people were arrested and 31 vehicles seized in a major police crackdown on illegal road users.

In the past three months, more than 1,000 drivers have been hit with penalty notices by police working on the Bradford District Roads Policing Strategy.

The £30,000 scheme - funded by the Safer Communities Partnership, working with the West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership - issued 1,023 penalty notices between January and last month, in Keighley, Bradford and Shipley. Of those, 457 were for speeding, 153 for not wearing seatbelts (including children), 82 for using mobile phones and 30 for illegally tinted windows.Others were for driving without insurance, bus lane contravention, dangerous overtaking, illegally carrying drugs, parking obstruction, dangerous vehicle parts, illegal registration plates and driving without due care. Also picked up were men on the run, including one wanted in connection with a burglary.
