MOTORISTS in Chard and Ilminster will need to bring extra change tomorrow (Thursday) as car park charge rises come into force.

Signs informing drivers of the rises were put up in district council car parks in Chard, Ilminster and Yeovil today.

In Chard, prices for the short stay car parks in Bath Street, Essex Close and Boden Street have increased to 50p for one hour, 60p for two, 70p for three and £2 for four hours.

All-day parking provision has been removed altogether.

The two-hour parking tariff in Market Field, Combe Street and the Minnows has risen from 40p to 50p, while the cost of the long-stay Crowshute car park has risen to £1.

In Ilminster, charges have risen to 40p for one hour and 50p for two hours, with the long-stay West Street car park rising to £1.

In Crewkerne, parking charges in South Street have risen by 10p for all tariff bands up to and including four hours, and all-day parking will be removed.

Long-stay charges in Abbey and West Street car parks have been frozen, with a 10p rise for one and two-hour stays.

South Somerset District Council agreed the controversial measures at an executive meeting in January.
