KURT Grieve of Audley Police Amateur Boxing Club's senior divisional novice champion - just four months after joining the club.

The 23-year-old light middleweight beat Burnley's John Brindle of Sandygate ABC at the Novice Championships held at Wythenshawe ABC.

It capped a remarkable few months for the Blackburn boxer who had little boxing experience before joining Audley.

Now he will represent the North West in the regional finals at the weekend, which again will be held at Wythenshawe.

Grieve booked his place in the final of the division competition - which includes clubs from East Lancashire, East Cheshire, Isle of Man and Cumbria - with a points win over Jonathan Jordan in the quarter finals then a third round demolition of Brougton fighter, John Curry, in the semi finals.

Audley coach Yaqoob Hussain believes he has stumbled on a fighter with genuine natural ability.

Yaqoob said: "Before Kurt joined us, he had been a member of another club but only for a short while. He has shown by winning the divisional title that he is a natural. It is not that often you find someone who has a God-given talent but I firmly believe that is what Kurt has."

Yaqoob added: "We are very proud of what Kurt has achieved in such a short time."
