LUCTON School under-12 team capped an excellent season with a win at the Minster College seven-a-side tournament.

Lucton were drawn in a tough three-team pool but came through with wins against the host team 35-0 and against Bishop of Hereford's Bluecoat School 14-5.

In the semi-final, there was a tough battle against St Mary's Lugwardine when only a last-minute try gave Lucton a 7-0 win and a place in the final against Aylestone.

With the wind behind them in the first half, Lucton played for territory and gained two tries through Tom Looms and Frank Kelly.

After the turnaround, thanks to their dominant scrum and solid defence, Lucton retained control and clinched a 21-0 victory with another try from Looms.

Over the whole competition, Looms was the outstanding player for Lucton while Kelly, who scored five tries, Ben Williams, Richard Tweddell and Matthew Handley all impressed in an excellent squad performance.

The tournament win rounded off a fine campaign which had seen the side lose just once in 11 games and win the Sun Valley Rugby Project under-12 12-a-side competition.
