GOLFERS have been warned not to leave their clubs on view after eight sets were stolen from two Worcestershire clubs in half an hour.

The clubs, one set of which had been bought the previous day, were taken from vehicles at Ombersley Golf Club, Bishops Wood Road at 8.30pm on Tuesday, April 24.

Meanwhile, two sets were taken from the Vale Golf Club in Bishampton, Pershore before 9pm on the same day.

A police spokesman said: "The 19th hole at both clubs has proved to be a very difficult one for these victims.

"They mistakenly felt that their property was safely locked away in their vehicles while they were in the clubhouse.

"Unfortunately, the clubs were on view and were an easy target for a thief - or thieves - clearly intent on quickly acquiring a number of sets of clubs.

"The best advice is to ensure that golf clubs - and all other valuables - are never left in unattended vehicles, whether on view or not."

While there is nothing to directly link the two sets of thefts, police are working on the theory that they were carried out by the same person or people.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious at the clubs at around the given times - or who is offered golf clubs for sale from an unusual source - is asked to contact police on 08457 444 888.

They should quote 662S/240407 for the Ombersley thefts or 679S/240407 for Bishampton incident.
