A MAN with more than 100 previous convictions will be spared jail for his latest escapade as he is now getting his life in order.

Burnley magistrates were told how Sean Cook, 34, was one of three men trying to steal flagstones from a house earmarked for demolition.

He had been desperate for cash to get a house so he could see his daughter, the court was told.

Cook, who has had mental health problems in the past, was now said to have grown out of his previous behaviour and wanted to put his family first.

The defendant, of Spencer Street, Burnley, admitted burglary with intent to steal at a property on Hurtley Street in the town. He was bailed until April 23, for a pre-sentence report.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Cook had been homeless and desperate to get some money for a bond on a house. His child's mother had told him he could not see her until he had a property of his own and he was asked if he wanted to make some easy cash.

The defendant looked better than he had for many years and had not been in court since December 2004, the solicitor said.
