SEVERAL South Lakeland tourism businesses are in the running for accolades at a prestigious county-wide industry awards.

Cumbria Tourism has announced the shortlist for this year's annual tourism awards which celebrate achievements and skills across the county's tourism industry.

The event takes place at the Castle Green Hotel, Kendal, on May 2 and features ten tourism business and eight employee categories.

Businesses which have been nominated for awards include South Lakes Wild Animal Park in Dalton for the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year prize and Kendal's Castle Green Hotel for Business Tourism of the Year.

Cumbria Tourism chief executive Ian Stephens said: "There has been a superb standard of entries this year and the judges had a difficult but enjoyable task in deciding the shortlist of finalists. All the entries, whether businesses or individuals, have demonstrated excellence in their chosen fields, offering exceptional standards of customer service to our visitors."
