WYCOMBE shoppers can stop crossing their legs on trips into town as a set of new loos will be opening in the Eden centre.

Toilets in High Wycombe have come under fire for being smelly but the new 600,000 square foot shopping centre will include a full set of new lavs.

The bus station in Bridge Street has already been kitted out with some and Eden, which is set to open in spring 2008, is now set to follow suit, flushing away any current public convenience problems.

The announcement has come as a relief for Wycombe shoppers as the town's current facilities have not won themselves any fans.

Amanda Green, from Hughenden Road, was caught short in the town centre on her way to work last month and was forced to use the public loos outside Sainsbury's in Dovecot Road.

The 47-year-old yoga teacher said: "It's sort of all tiled but it's really in a bad state. You paddle when you go in there and there's nowhere to wash your hands - the worst loo I've ever been in my life, you should be able to wash your hands.

"The other one that's bad is the one opposite the Guild Hall. It just smells of cowpats when you go in there."

Amanda was pleased to hear Eden would have new loos and thought the ones in the bus station were great. She added: "I think it's excellent. It's important we have toilets, we don't want to be remembered for our rotten toilets."

Becky Wotherspoon, senior communications officer for Wycombe District Council, said: "The public toilets around the town centre are cleaned regularly, however, we are unable to control how they are treated by other users."

She said anyone wishing to report a problem at one of these facilities can do so by calling 01494 421415, during office hours, or 463890, out of hours.
