A HEARTFELT appeal for sponsorship in the Race for Life has gone out from a single mum with terminal cancer.

Pina Anderson from Elmside, Evesham is determined to enter the event in June for the tenth year running, despite battling with bone and lung cancer.

The 43-year-old was first diagnosed with breast cancer the day before her second son George was born ten years ago. She had a major operation and chemotherapy and the cancer became dormant.

But now it's returned.

Determined Pina, an administrator at Evesham High School, said: "It's moved to my lungs and bones and the doctors say they can only offer me palliative care now, but I am determined to keep looking after my boys and to raise as much money as possible for cancer research."

Pina has raised more than £6,000 over the years by taking part in Race for Life marathons at Stratford, Cheltenham and Evesham, and also run raffles and sales at fetes where she used to live in Badsey.

Since she was first diagnosed with cancer she's been through the trauma of a separation and the heartache of her father, then a close friend at work dying. Now she cannot get around as much as she used to for sponsorship, so she's hoping Evesham Journal readers will help her. Pina said: "I am urging all those who cannot take part in the marathon, or simply those who just feel glad to be alive, to please sponsor me on my website.

"Any small donation will help fight this terrible disease."

Both Pina's sons, George who attends Badsey First School and 18-year-old Luke from Evesham High, are backing their mum in her Race for Life.

George said: "My Mum is wonderful, she means the world to me and I wish her lots of love and luck."

The event takes place at 11am at Crown Meadow, Evesham on Sunday, June 24. Sponsor Pina on www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/pinabc.
