I WISH to respond to a letter writer (Waste Collection Idea Is Rubbish, News Shopper, May 9) and join the debate on the fact Bromley Council is considering introducing fortnightly waste collection.

I agree with the letter writer's points.

The writer states they would like to know other residents' views. Well, here is mine.

To have a fortnightly collection is entirely unacceptable. Are we going back to the squalor of the Middle Ages, when disease was spread by rubbish in the streets?

What do we pay our council tax for, if not to have our rubbish collected weekly and our environment kept clean?

If Bromley Council thinks its residents will just accept its decision and roll over, as many inner boroughs have done, it is mistaken.

We will fight this idea. I would be willing to set up an action group with the letter writer.

For the rest of Bromley's residents, refuse this money-saving scheme and demand what you pay for - a weekly collection of household rubbish.

Make Bromley aware if it goes ahead with fortnightly collections, you will withhold part of your council tax.

The London mayor has spent millions on promoting the capital as a major city, but how will visitors feel if they are covered in rubbish wherever they go?
