A man who acted as a "drugs shop" on the streets of Keighley has been jailed for a total of 46 months.

Bradford Crown Court heard how wraps of crack cocaine and heroin with a street value of more than £500 were recovered when police arrested Javid Younis last August. When interviewed, he claimed to have been selling between £4,000 and £5,000 worth of drugs a day, said prosecutor Stephen Uttley.

Younis, 22, of Finch Street, Bradford, pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply and to possessing criminal property. He also admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence and a community order imposed for offences of burglary and robbery.

Passing sentence, Judge Roger Scott told him: "You were on the streets of Keighley being a drugs shop. What concerns me is that in three days you managed to sell £13,800 worth of drugs on the streets of West Yorkshire."

Mr Uttley told the court how police officers arrested one man and then saw Younis throw down a package. It was later found to contain 15 wraps of crack cocaine and 16 wraps of heroin. Younis was searched and a package inside his tracksuit contained 20 wraps of heroin. He told officers he was selling heroin at £10 a wrap, or two wraps for £15, and crack cocaine at a similar price on behalf of a dealer. He said he was not doing it for drugs but for money to pay off his debts.

He would have been paid about £1,000 a week. Giles Bridge, for Younis, said his client was addicted to crack cocaine at the time and had built up debts to a dealer.
