AN up and coming model from Truro has been selected from thousands of girls across the country for the final of the prestigious Miss Great Britain Competition 2007.

Charlotte Thomson, 19, who is currently studying for a business degree at the University of Plymouth, has already modelled for companies such as Seventenths, Brides in Cornwall Magazine and won the Nuts Boardmaster Babes competition in Newquay last year.

The teenage model was encouraged by her mum, Valerie Thomson, who owns the Falmouth Bay Oyster Company, to enter the competition just for fun.

Charlotte said: "I never dreamt that I would get anywhere. So we sent my application off and some photos, and within a few weeks I got a letter saying well done and that I had made it into the final 100, which was featured in Zoo magazine soon after."

The finalists were then split into regional heats so Charlotte flew off the Cardiff to meet the organisers of the event and to be interviewed.

Charlotte added: "After waiting two more weeks, I received a letter from the Miss Great Britain team to say that I had got through to the final, which is to be held on May 21 at Grosvenor Hotel in Mayfair, London.

"I was so happy when I read that I was through, especially as thousands of girls had entered. Also, I am the only girl from Cornwall, so that's who I will be representing, which makes it even more special for me."

Charlotte is now looking for sponsorship for the competition, any company that is interested in helping her out will be mentioned in any interviews that she gives and will also get a free half page advertisement in the Miss Great Britain brochure.
