PLANS to convert a former infant school into flats are expected to be approved this week.
Darlington Borough Council planning officers have recommended that Harrowgate Hill Infant School be turned into 32 apartments.
The scheme, to be discussed by the planning committee on Wednesday, includes a block of 18 apartments and a further 14 flats in the school building.
People living nearby had campaigned for the school to be converted into a community centre because of the lack of youth facilities in the area.
A report to be put before the committee said the application met the council's planning and design statement.
It added: "The development respects the amenity and general character of the area."
