Sutton Schools U11s have won the London Shield for the first time in the Borough's history, beating Hackney 3-1 in the final at Arsenal's academy ground.
Sutton were first out of the blocks as Myles Henry cleverly put Ed Mason into space and his deep cross was met at the far post by Luc Vezzu to score a stunning goal in the opening minutes.
But this served only to sting Hackney into action and for the next 15 minutes, Sutton were under the cosh and the pressure eventually told as Hackney grabbed an equaliser to make the score 1 - 1 at half time.
In the second half, Sutton gradually began to get a grip on the game with Rhys Hanningan and Ieuan Whyte outstanding at centre back and Bradley Sexton and Jack Jebb bossing the midfield. When Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill's corner was headed home by Sexton, Sutton scented victory and although Hackney fought back once again, a superb strike from Ollie Brindley in the final minute wrapped the game up.
At the presentation, Sutton skipper, Bradley Sexton joined an illustrious group of players who have lifted the London Shield over the years which includes Bobby Moore, Tony Adams and John Terry.
