A Weybridge woman has been attacked as she went to investigate the sound of another person crying.

Elmbridge detectives said the woman was walking home from a pub in Weybridge about 12.30am on Thursday morning when she heard the sound of crying near the junction of Vale and Cross roads.

Detective Constable Max Priestley said when the 30-year-old victim went to investigate, she was grabbed from behind by a man.

After a brief struggle she managed to get away.

DC Priestly said the attacker was described as a tall, white male with a broad build.

"It is unclear as to whether the crying the victim heard was the offender himself or genuinely someone in distress and we are keen to hear from anyone with any information about this incident," DC Priestly said.

"We take any crimes such as this very seriously and would ask anyone who saw or heard what happened to come forward to assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Priestley on 0845 125 2222 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
