Milford Haven rockers The Hybridz have secured a place in the final of Radio Cymru's Welsh Battle of the Bands competition.

Their track was judged by Owen Powell, formerly the guitarist in Catatonia, and Rhodri Llwyd Morgan, of Cerrig Melys.

Jenny Turner, the mother of the lead guitarist Tom, said the judges' comments were "extremely positive". The group received 32 marks out of 40, which was more than many other bands made up of older, first-language Welsh speakers.

Following the Western Telegraph's article calling for local people to support the band, Radio Cymru was so swamped with calls from supporters it had to issue a message urging the people of Pembrokeshire to stop voting.

The Hybridz are one of six bands in the final on April 25th.

Sam Freeman, Tom Turner, Lawrence Stablow-best and Alex Picton have already recorded a song at a professional studio, which will be played on air and analysed by the judges.

It will be a phone vote, so The Hybridz are once again calling for local support on the night.

If they win, The Hybridz will receive a three-song recording contract and appear on S4C music show Bandit.
