A PROLIFIC thief was jailed for 120 days - and accepted his fate.
Blackburn magistrates were told that David Phelps had a drug addiction which he funded by stealing.
And defence solicitor Deborah Morgan said her client was realistic enough to know that only a custodial sentence would follow his latest series of offences.
"He takes a pragmatic view, asking for all matters to be sentenced today without a pre-sentence report and accepts that a custodial sentence will be the only option," said Miss Morgan.
"He has shot himself in the foot somewhat."
Phelps, 22, of Conway Avenue, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft of a wallet from a car, theft of five MP3 players from Asda, theft of a satellite navigation system from a car and theft of items worth £98 from Asda.
The court heard that three of the offences were committed while Phelps was on bail.
Miss Morgan said if he received a custodial sentence Phelps would seek the help of the prison drug team so that on his release he would have a good start towards a drug free existence.
