A CAMPAIGNER has taken her fight to end poverty in Africa to Europe.
Irene Scannell, a retired housewife from Blackmore Walk, Rayleigh, joined more than 700 people on a march on European embassies in London, demanding trade justice.
Mrs Scannell visited the Finnish embassy where she was welcomed by counsellor Tapani Kinela as part of the event organised by the Trade Justice Movement.
She said: "The Finnish embassy was very supportive of our message.
"They said they have some understanding because Finland itself is a young industrialised nation and people remember what it feels like to work their way out of poverty.
"It's exciting to be part of something so important.
"I wanted to take part in this march to let European leaders know we are keeping a close eye on the trade deals they are trying to push on poor countries."
Mrs Scannell took part in the march as a member of the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development who she has been campaigning with for five years.
