WHILE hundreds of cyclists are gearing up for the challenge of this year's 50/50 Rotary Cycle Ride, taking place on June 10, many people who are less inclined to get on a bike can also be part of the bumper fundraising event.

The marathon cycling event relies heavily on a team of dedicated volunteers from the Rotary, however, Scouts and other members of the community take part.

This year's event is going to be bigger than ever and more people are being appealed for to help make the day a success.

Marshals have a very important job on the day, making sure no-one gets hurt or lost on the day, and to offer much-needed encouragement during the ride.

They are positioned around the route in groups, and enjoy all the fresh air and views without the puffing and panting.

Other important volunteers are those that check everyone in and out on the day.

Cyclists need to be accounted for on the day so that the club knows exactly how many people are on the roads and whether they have completed their chosen route.

People with an eye for detail are ideal to help in this department.

And of course, help in the food and drink department is always welcomed. Whether it means baking a cake, or serving cold drinks to fatigued cyclists.

But you can also help by doing nothing at all and just sending a donation to the club.

This year 50% of the money raised will go towards the Musgrove Leukaemic Group Somerset, along with other Rotary charities.

The other 50% will go to the cyclists' charities of choice.

Donations can be made by cheque payable to The Rotary Club of Taunton.

And of course if you want to take part in the bike ride, all the details (including a map of the route) and entry forms are also available here along with at the Gazette office at 44 St James Street in Taunton.

All donations should be sent to The Rotary Cycle Ride Administrator, "Brindles", 16 Campion Drive, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 3XE.

If you have any questions about the ride call Jacky Ford on 01823-277057.

And don't forget to send in your training pics and get your sponsors!
