THE Bridgwater Mercury dated May 8 featured Home-Start Sedgemoor's recent sponsored swim, which raised approximately £1,000 for this local family support charity. Unfortunately there was a typing error and the heading stated Sure Start and not Home-Start.
I would like to take this opportunity however to thank everyone who supported the swimmers, and the volunteers themselves who work tirelessly to make a difference to the families we support. I should also like to thank the Mayor of Bridgwater, Pat Parker, for nominating Home-Start Sedgemoor as one of his charities of the year and for helping to raise funds throughout the year.
Finally, to clarify what Home-Start is and does, it is a national charity that supports parents who are struggling to cope, perhaps with post-natal illness, disability, bereavement, the illness of a parent or child, or social isolation. Our volunteers visit families in their own homes, hence the name, giving practical and emotional support.
Home-visiting volunteers and people to guide and govern the scheme are always needed so if you would like more information please contact me on 01278 445022 or visit www.home-start.org.uk.
Jo Dean, Senior Organiser, Home-Start Sedgemoor, Taunton Road, Bridgwater.
