A former solider has raised more than £1,000 by rowing the distance from Leeds to Liverpool, in aid of the NSPCC.

Peter Wilkinson, 47, of Horsforth, completed the 100,000 meters challenge on Sunday, March 25 on a rowing machine at White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.

He completed the distance in seven hours 39 minutes and six seconds, raising £1,1737 along the way for the children's charity.

Mr Wilkinson said: "As a father myself, I have always admired the work of the NSPCC and the success of their Full Stop campaign is a crucial step towards their goal of ending child abuse, so I was keen to raise as much money as possible to support them. I was inspired to do the event after meeting Steve Ockerby who has also raised funds for the NSPCC through rowing. As a keen rower myself, I have completed several marathons and competed in the British and English Indoor Rowing Championships, the 100,000 metres is a recognised team event, but it was a significant personal achievement for me to complete the distance as an individual.

"I would like to thank the White Rose Shopping Centre and all the people who have supported me, with very special thanks to my rowing partners and my wife. I couldn't have done it without their fantastic support."
