A gang of teenagers kicked and punched a man as he lay on the ground on a town's seafront during a daylight attack.

The 42-year-old victim suffered swelling and bruising to his face and groin as the yobs, believed to be two boys and two girls in their teens, assaulted him on the pavement.

The attack happened on Clacton's promenade, opposite Penfold Road.

PC Sarah Latchford, of Clacton police, said: "The victim doesn't remember anything about it."

A witness reported seeing a youngster, wearing a white hooded top, kick the victim in the groin. Police were called at 3pm, although the incident could have started at about 2.30pm. The victim was taken to Clacton Hospital for treatment.

PC Latchford said the victim did not believe anything was stolen from him during the attack.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which happened on Wednesday but of which details have only just been released, to come forward.
