Berinsfield Amateur Boxing Club are approaching the new season with optimism and plans to extend and improve their premises.
Fifteen years ago when the club were re-born, they had no facilities and rented a local hall twice a week, having only four or five boxers to cater for.
Today, the club own a thriving gym and can now boast membership of more than 100, with 25 boxers who fight at competition level.
This has taken years of hard work and determination by head coach Mel Corrigan and his team of coaches. Success has slowly but steadily become increasingly familiar within Berinsfield Amateur Boxing Club
Last year alone the club produced five Home Counties champions and five junior schoolboys ranked within the top five in the country.
The new improvements to their facilities have been costed at £130,000.
The club have been granted £77,000 by South Oxfordshire District Council and are awaiting confirmation of further funding from Sport England and the Amateur Boxing Association for the remainder of the money.

The funding is recognition for the support the club have given the local community.
Corrigan plans to expand his coaching team which currently numbers five.
The last year has seen the retirement of long-standing club chairman, Ray Jeffs, who has done much to steer the club to their current healthy state .
Jeffs is handing over to John Healey, who hopes to continue the good work.
Berinsfield will be hosting the Home Counties Under Ten-Bout Novice Championship on October 13.
This will be followed by their first dinner show of the season at Rover Sports and Social Club on November 2.
