Monaco’s winless run was extended to six games in all competitions as they were held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Nimes in Ligue 1.

Nimes captain Anthony Briancon had given the visitors the lead after 19 minutes, but Radamel Falcao equalised eight minutes later with a deflected shot from outside the area.

Antonin Bobichon fired over after just two minutes as Nimes made a bright start and they went in front when Bobichon’s free-kick was headed home from eight yards by Briancon.

Falcao fired a free-kick over shortly afterwards before getting Monaco back on level terms in the 27th minute, his long-range shot taking a slight deflection before nestling in the bottom corner.

The 32-year-old then had a header saved by Paul Bernardoni and should have put the home side in front early in the second half, only to crash a volley against the bar from close range having been picked out by a free-kick from Youri Tielemans.

At the other end Briancon’s header was well saved by Diego Benaglio, while Monaco substitute Moussa Sylla blazed over 10 minutes from time after being played in by Samuel Grandsir with a cross.
