Oxfordshire have won promotion to Division 3 of the ECB Women’s County Championship.
An eight-wicket victory over Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire in their play-off at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes, saw the county move up, despite an unpromising start.
Some poor bowling saw their opponents cruise to 63, before a brilliant catch from Carla Woods at gully off Sam Moore’s bowling brought a vital breakthrough.
The wicket was to prove the catalyst for Oxon, who claimed further victims at regular intervals.
Genny Porter’s medium pace brought her two wickets in her first over, and she ended with figures of 3-18 off six overs as Cambridgeshire reached 164-6.
Rhian Todd and Suzy Halsey then got Oxfordshire off to a superb start.
The duo narrowly missed out on a century stand, the first wicket falling on 96 after Todd was out for a well-crafted 64.
Halsey was dismissed for 35, but Porter and Abi Currie got the job done, seeing Oxon home with ten overs to spare, enabling the team to start their celebrations after a first-ever promotion.
