Bicester defeated Gosford All Blacks 43-17 in the BB&O Premier Division basement battle to claim their first league win since February 2009.

Visitors Gosford wasted several good chances and poor throwing at lineouts cost them dear.

Bicester led at half-time through tries from Tom Horwood, Dickie Walsh and the outstanding No 8 Dan Spencer. Tim Ellis reduced the deficit with a penalty.

After the break, Bicester upped a gear with further tries coming from Steve Risbridger, Spencer, Jack Clunes and James Shield. Spencer and Risbridger shared four conversions.

Ellis and Tom Heydon went over for Gosford, Ellis converting both.

Alchester continued their winning ways with a 31-3 victory over visitors Hungerford.

Hungerford led after just two minutes with a penalty, but after that it was all Alchester.

Matt Flegg, Andy Harbottle, Joe MacAnearney and Andy Blacklock went over for tries, while Steve Miller landed three penalties and a conversion.

Harwell were 32-8 winners at Thatcham 2nd in Division 1 South.

Their tries came from Paul Reynolds (2), Sammy Al Khalif, prop Steve Few and Mark Baker, while Dave Beaven slotted a penalty and two conversions.

Didcot won a hard-fought game 28-7 away to Slough 2nd.

They were 21-7 in front at the break following tries from Paul Costello, Andy Taylor – his fifth of the season – and Simon Lemin, all converted by Costello, who also goaled Mark Rumble’s second-half try.
