On a dramatic final day, Bicester & North Oxford climbed from fourth to second and so clinch promotion by winning at Kimble.

Bicester were bowled out for 195 after Mike Simpson made 79 and Rob Humphries 53.

David Needham took 5-67 for the hosts, but was outdone by Richard Simpson (6-42) as Kimble crashed to 133 all out.

Kimble 7, Bicester & North Oxford 25

Bicester only went up because Buckingham Town 2nd and Stokenchurch played out a tense draw, when victory for either side would have earned them promotion.

Replying to Stokenchurch’s 189, Buckingham ended on 166-9, meaning neither went up.

Buckingham 2nd 10, Stokenchurch 15

Wallingford, who would have been champions had they not been docked 40 points for failing to nominate an umpire to the league’s panel, beat Cheasley by 35 runs.

Trevor Spindler took 5-44 as Chearsley were out 140 replying to Wallingford’s 175-8 with Darren Grist (57) starring.

Congratulations to Bicester and North Oxford. It looks like their request to step down a couple of divisions has worked out very nicely!

haha

They are indebted to Stokenchurch and Buckingham for kindly playing out a draw. To be fair to Bicester with the side they had they were probably in the correct division and for most of the season weren't even in the running for promotion. That doesn't make it any less bizarre that they were permitted to drop down in the first place however.

To be fair they would have been fifth without a 19 point bonus from a concession on a wash out day and Wallingford's umpiring point deficit so div 4 was about right.

Are you chaps saying they may have struggled if they had stayed in their original division? From what I saw of Div 1 they would have given several of the sides a good game!!

congratulations to cropredy and all
league winners. the difference at the
top of some of the leagues was
dependant on which side had the
least number of matches abandoned
or which sides got 25 points because
a club couldn't raise a side. in div
4 buckingham had 3 games abandoned,
more than any other top half side.
thats how the cookie crumbles sometimes.

i would add that in div 4 you have to be
sorry that wallingford because of their
points deduction were not champions.
couldn't find an umpire for the panel ?
once again cricket teams are punished
by off the field errors and none
compliance with "the rules". would
fines be better ? and then after a
couple of times then have points
deducted(for disciplinary matters only
keep points deductions ?)

I see what you are saying CMK. If a league is tight at either end you don't really want it decided by the weather or any other non-match related issue. I've never understood why points aren't worked out on an average instead of the total amount garnered. Just one of the many things wrong with the way the rules are set-up at the moment though....

average/percentage would make far mor sense, though I can see an argument for making sure there is incentive to play games rather than calling off at the first hint of rain.

Rumour was that Wallingford were not keen on promotion so maybe their lack of an umpire was a tactical decision!

The leagues are decided to much on non-cricketing issues. Banbury XX should have asked to drop down a few divisions, they were the whipping boys of the league and they gifted Bicester promotion due to not being able to put a side out when everone else was rained off.
Wallingford are in the same position as everyone else, it's difficult to get umpires. A task which is not made any easier by the league executive with all their rules, who quite frankly are a waste of space and haven't played the game to any sort of level byond school. No doubt they'll bring in another 5 rules over the winter that will make no difference to the cricket being played, but will heavily fine clubs when they feel they have been broken.

Just had a look at the league website and I recognise at least 4 or 5 names of ex-players who played quite a decent level and the rest played pretty good local cricket. Stop wining and play in a different league if you are not happy with this one. You are a cretin

This division has been turned upside down with the rain... if you do tjhis division on average points in played games... Winners would be Buckingham II who were 4th, runners up Cropredy who won..... with Biscester finishing in 5th!!!! who were second.
So rain has decided this league...not the teams with the best performance on the cricket pitch.

with independent umpires deciding if games are to be abandoned, average scores would be a welcome!!
