Banbury booked their place in tomorrow’s Oxfordshire Under 17 Honey-B Trophy final after an 11-run victory over holders Great & Little Tew in the semi-final.
Batting first, Banbury suffered an early setback when they lost opener Lloyd Sabin in the first over.
When Jamie Coles followed for 23, Banbury were on the back foot.
But a stand of 40 for the third wicket between Tom White and Josh Megson steadied the ship as they reached 125-4 from their 20 overs, Megson making 43 and White 42.
Tew’s Harry Smith fell in the first over of their reply and Curtly Slatter holed out for 18 as Tew struggled, particuarly against a very tight spell from Sabin, who conceded 11 runs from his four overs.
Matt Taylor’s big hitting saw him top-score with 41, but Tew finished short of the target at 114-6, Coles returning figures of 2-25.
Banbury take on Oxford in the final at Horspath tomorrow, the match starting at 10.30am.
RESULT Banbury 125-4 (J Megson 43, T White 42); Great & Little Tew 114-6 (M Taylor 41, J Coles 2-25).
