Persistent torrential rain scuppered Oxfordshire Under 16s’ tour to Jersey as the 2010 Standard Bank Jersey Festival was washed out.
Although Oxfordshire managed two games, losing by two wickets to Bucks and five wickets to Hampshire, the remainder of the week was cancelled, with more than a month’s rain falling in three hours on the third day.
It led to severe flash flooding across the island, and caused the Plate competition to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Oxon did, at least, have the satisfaction of beating hosts Jersey in a hastily-arranged Twenty20 match on the final day of the tour, albeit on an artificial pitch.
Matt Taylor starred in that game, smashing an impressive 78 from just 38 balls as Oxon beat Jersey by 25 runs.
