CRICKET: Oxon face uphill battle

OXFORDSHIRE are on the back foot in their Minor Counties Championship Western Division clash with Wales.

After choosing to bat first and overcoming the early loss of Daniel Roberts, Wales amassed 364-9 off their 90 overs.

Oxon then lost Chris Sandbach as they closed on 32-1.

And their problems do not end there, with all-time record wicket-taker Keith Arnold leaving the field in the 24th over with a groin strain and not reappearing.

It had all started so well for Oxon when Arnold trapped Roberts leg before in the second over with his very first ball of the match.

But after that it was very much Wales’s day, with four batsmen making half-centuries.

Arnold injured himself when attempting a catch, raising concerns over whether he will be fit to bowl in the second innings.

Richard Kaufman (4-80) and Paul McMahon (3-136) were in the wickets.

It was a decent diving effort for a catch in the field that caused it. But guess you were not there to see!!

I guess you would be right General....maybe a spring chicken like yourself will e replacing him in the next match.
My point is this guy is and was a great bowler however there are younger and as good bowlers playing around oxfordshire and arnie has had his day lets look to the future.
and selecting someone who cannot bowl to there full potential is a risk and as we all know if you are over compensating for an injury then other injuries are more likely to occur .....FACT!!

I think Arnie has more than justified his spell in the side with economy and wickets compared with younger, fitter bowlers. Its a shame he got injured though, and this was a risk they took with him. Perhaps now is the right time for him to retire from County duties?

After taking the new ball for the past couple of season, I was disappointed not to get a call from Ian Hawtin. My pace, bounce and movement could of been of use on day 1.

Maybe next time!

Dave old chap .....noone has said the old man wasnt/isnt a good bowler his record speaks for itself but he has had his day and should retire from oxfordshire and make way for those who are the future of oxfordshire cricket and not the past....

Arnie still is a good bowler and a great competitor but alas now very injury prone,Monsieur Dwayne is right, time for the youngsters, although not sue there are that many around....
