ANDY Haynes and Jim Head’s 128-run stand helped Oxfordshire B book their place in the last 16 of the Seevent National Over 60s 2nd XI Championship.

The openers starred as the visitors beat Worcestershire by 63 runs at Feckenham CC in the South West Group.

Haynes (83) and Head (74) helped Oxon post 258-9 from their 45 overs, before Robin Newman took 3-22 as the hosts ended on 195-7.

Meanwhile, James Coles starred with bat and ball as Oxfordshire Under 17s bounced back with a 94-run victory against Buckinghamshire.

Having suffered a first-innings defeat to the same opponents in the ECB County Championship earlier in the week, Oxon gained revenge in the one-day cup.

Coles, 14, took centre stage, hitting an unbeaten 108, before taking three wickets.

Oxon elected to bat, but quickly found themselves in trouble on 24-3.

A fourth-wicket stand of 87 between Coles, whose fine knock came off 129 balls, and Sammy Lion-Cachet (45) steadied the ship, helping them post 243-7.

Wickets then fell regularly in Bucks’ reply, Coles taking 3-18 as they were all out for 149.

Earlier in the week, Oxon began their county championship campaign with defeat at Oxford Downs.

Deciding to bat, they slumped to 102-5, before Dan Hall

top-scored with an unbeaten 84 in their 238 all out.

However, Bucks posted a formidable 429-6 and went in search of the outright victory.

But Oxon produced an encouraging display in the second innings.

Freddie Smith hit an unbeaten 106 and Lion-Cachet 50no as they finished on 210-2.

Elsewhere, Tom Bartlett was the star of the show, but Oxon Under 13s endured mixed results in two T20 friendlies against Sussex at Billingshurst CC.

The youngster took 2-6 from four overs as the visitors restricted their hosts to 101-6 in the first game.

Dylan Driscoll then hit 32 as Oxon knocked off the runs with six overs to spare for a five-wicket victory.

The visitors stuttered to 96-9 in the second match, and Sussex triumphed by six wickets with three balls to spare.

Oxon Under 14s Mercia fell to an eight-wicket defeat against Hampshire at Wellington Sport Ground.

The visitors elected to bat in the friendly clash, but were soon in trouble at 4-2.

Will Slatter top-scored with 22 as Oxon were dismissed for 104.

Despite losing an early wicket, Hampshire eased to victory, with Ollie Jameson (65no) and Mahendra Jish putting on an 85-run stand.
