OXFORD University continued their impressive form with a convincing 45-19 win over a Major Stanley’s XV at Iffley Road.

Tries from Dan Barley (2), Hugo McPherson, Will Wilson, Alex Hogg, Ed Elvin and Tom Stileman earned the Dark Blues an eighth win in nine games this season.

But the annual fixture was tarnished by a worrying looking injury to Oxford prop Kieran Ball, who was taken to hospital after being stretchered off, while centre Dom Waldouck only lasted 18 minutes.

Stanley’s team included players from Henley, Banbury and Oxford Harlequins, but they were caught out on 11 minutes when McPherson drove over, Kearns converting.

Oxford made it 12-0 on 23 minutes with a fine effort.

Stileman brilliantly caught a Kearns box-kick and offloaded to Barley, who sprinted over from 60 metres for an unconverted score.

Stanley’s hit back through Larry Hanley’s try, Tom Humberstone adding the extras.

But the students led 24-7 at the break as Wilson and Hogg drove over, Kearns converting the first.

Barley raced across at the start of the second half for Oxford, before Elvin touched down, Kearns adding the extras on both occasions.

Oxford continued to dominate and Stileman crossed for his tenth try in four games, Kearns converting again.

Dan Moor was sin-binned with seven minutes to go and Stanley’s scored two late tries through Charlie Craig and James Beaufils, Ed Phillips converting the latter.

But they were only consolidatory in a game Oxford dominated for the most part.
