MARK Jones hailed his heroic Oxford City players as they stunned Colchester United in the Emirates FA Cup.

Matt Paterson's 46th-minute header earned the Vanarama National League South visitors a memorable 1-0 victory.

It secured their place in the second round for the first time since the 1969-70 season.

Boss Jones could not hide his delight and praised his players for knocking out the Sky Bet League Two hosts.

He said: "Sometimes you just can't write the script and as coaches you think you have all the answers.

"But I have to give tremendous credit to the players, the way they stuck it. "I'm just delighted for the players, we have struggled in the early part of the season, but today is a fantastic day for us.

"These players have put their names down in the history of the club."
