SAM Mendes slammed a remarkable 160 from just 118 balls, but could not prevented the Oxfordshire Over 50s B team losing their unbeaten Home Counties League record against Surrey at Ashford.
Mendes, who hit three sixes and 24 fours, shared a fourth-wicket of 155 in 20 overs with David Warner (46) as Oxon rattled up 284-5 from 45 overs, their highest score of the season.
Surrey were always up with the required run rate, thanks to Prakash Joshi’s 94 not out, and 54 from Kevin Sweet which enabled them to secure a four-wicket win with five balls to spare.
Oxfordshire Over 50s A team slumped to a nine-wicket defeat against Wales in their ECB Championship Group 4 match at Challow & Childrey.
Darryl Woods top-scored with 38 as Oxon were dismissed for 155, before Wales eased home in the 31st over.
Oxfordshire Over 60s raced to a ten-wicket victory over Worcestershire in their ECB West Midlands Group at Banbury Twenty.
Trevor Spindler (4-20) and Andrew Wingfield Digby (3-21) restricted the visitors to 109-8, before Ian Caunce, who smashed 69 from 45 balls, and Derek Watts (32no) knocked off the runs in 15 overs.
- A SPECTACULAR innings of 88 not out from 51 balls by George Seacole gave Witney Swifts an exciting six-wicket victory over Sandford St Martin in the North Group of the Oxfordshire T20 competition.
Chasing 178 for victory, Swifts got home with four balls to spare.
Earlier, Stephen Dobson had struck 62 off just 25 balls for Sandford, despite a tidy spell of 4-20 from Swifts’ Graeme Woodward.
Great & Little Tew won by six wickets against Witney Mills in fixture reduced to 15 overs by rain.
