CAPTAIN Fergus Taylor says Oxford University’s record-breaking winning run counts for nothing ahead of today’s 135th Varsity Match.

The Dark Blues take on Cambridge University at Twickenham bidding for an unprecedented seventh victory in a row.

Despite losing a large amount of experience in the summer, Taylor has still been able to include 11 returning Blues in the starting XV.

But the 24-year-old forward knows their past successes have no bearing come kick-off at 2.30pm.

He said: “A lot of the guys have got experience and memories from Twickenham.

“But there is a responsibility to not rest on the fact we have had good times there in the past, because we need to affect the future.

“It is important we don’t become complacent because every year is different.”

Taylor will win his third Blue, and while he is unsure if he will add a fourth, it is definitely the last time centre Henry Hughes and scrum half Henry de Berker will feature in a Varsity Match.

Taylor said: “It is a definitive end for them and everyone wants to go out on a high.”
