BANBURY missed out on a place in the top-three as their Home Counties Premier League season-finale at Slough fell foul of the heavy rain.

It means Lloyd Sabin’s side finish fourth in Division 1, with High Wycombe, who beat Reading, leapfrogging them on the final day.

Banbury were dismissed for 199 after electing to bat.

The hosts were quickly reduced to 20-2, but Olly Clarke (45) and Lloyd Sabin (33) put on 73 for the third wicket to steady the ship.

However, Sabin and Will Hawtin were dismissed in quick succession to leave Banbury 94-4 and Clarke could only score steadily as others fell around him.

And once he was dismissed, the tail crumbled.

Slough were on 78-3 in reply when the match was abandoned.

Great & Little Tew’s clash at home to Burnham was also abandoned.

The west Oxfordshire side looked in a strong position after restricting Burnham to 91-7, with captain Andy Harris taking 3-8 from four overs, but the rain had the last say.
