HORSPATH claimed the club’s third piece of silverware this season by denying Cumnor a hat-trick of Oxfordshire Under 13 League titles with a thrilling 14-run victory on finals day at Bicester & North Oxford.

Having posted 118-9 from their 20 overs after electing to bat, with Alfie Turner (32ret) leading the way, Horspath looked to be up against it as Cumnor reached 95-4 with six overs left.

But Luke Heritage produced a remarkable spell of 4-3 from three overs to turn the game on its head as the holders tumbled to 104 all out, despite Sam Down making 32.

Heritage’s heroics, which also saw him make useful runs and take five catches, earned him an England hoodie as player of the tournament.

The nail-biting triumph gave Horspath a notable county treble, with the club having already won the Oxon Under 13 Development League and the Oxon Under 11 League.

In the semi-finals, Horspath had swept aside Banbury by 91 runs.

Turner (30ret), Tarek Khan (30ret) and Tejas Anand (30) starred for the victors in their 151-2, before Banbury were held to 60-6.

Cumnor, meanwhile, gained an exciting three-run victory over Abingdon Vale.

Idris Hussain (30ret) shone in Cumnor’s 116-6, before Abingdon fell just short on 113-4, with Luke Charlesworth and George Siriwardene both making 32 retired.

Abingdon, however, did win the third-place play-off with a seven-wicket victory over Banbury.
