AN outstanding all-round display by Dan Escott, on his first-class debut, gave Oxford University a hard-earned 103-run win over Cambridge in the Varsity Match in the Parks.

Escott followed his second innings of 125 with figures of 6-70 as Cambridge, chasing an unlikely victory target of 402, were dismissed for 298 in 141.4 overs.

Matt Hughes scored 116 on the first day for Oxford who made 267 and then bowled out Cambridge for 182.

Escott’s century enabled the home side to declare the second innings at 316-5 and despite a dogged display by Cambridge on the last day, Oxford prevailed.
