KURTIS Patterson hit a brilliant century as Banbury made it five wins in a row with a thrilling three-wicket win over Tring Park in the Home Counties Premier League.

Despite Patterson’s 142 off 129 balls, the Division 1 leaders made hard work passing their target of 261, needing two runs off the last ball to secure victory.

A second-wicket partnership of 76 between Benjamin Abbott and Saif Zaib put Tring in good shape.

Thomas Helm and Michael Payne’s stand of 92 then helped the visitors to 210-4.

But Banbury fought back well as the visitors finished on 261-9.

The hosts were restricted to 15-2 in reply, but a thirdwicket partnership of 126 between Patterson and Lloyd Sabin (41) steered Banbury back into contention on 188-4.

Patterson, who hit 13 fours and four sixes in his innings, was finally dismissed as the hosts closed in on their target.

They still needed 11 of the final over and it was reduced to five when Tring were penalised for slow over rate.

They then hit the two runs needed off the last ball.

Great & Little Tew endured a miserable six-wicket defeat at the hands of Finchampstead.

The visitors were skittled for just 41 in 23.1 overs, Jandre Coetzee taking 7-16.

Although Matt Woods took two wickets to leave the hosts on 11-2, the writing was on the wall.

Finchampstead lost two more wickets, but comfortably reached 42 in the 12th over.
