CAPTAIN Josh Smith says Aston Rowant need to be fully focused on winning matches after being handed a points deduction for incorrectly registering a player.

Rowant have been stripped of the 20 points earned in their opening day Division 2 victory over Amersham, leaving them bottom.

Miles Hammond, who scored a century in that match, had been registered as a category 1 player, but because of his county contract with Gloucestershire, should have been category 2.

Hammond has been re-registered and replaces Tim Morgan in the side to face Oxford in the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League tomorrow.

Smith is now eager to put the matter to bed.

He said: “It was a genuine administrative error that was nothing to do with the club trying to play someone unregistered.

“We just need to get back to winning games and keep doing the basics well.”

John Barrett has warned Oxford’s rivals there is much more to come from all-rounder Harry Stephens.

The 21-year-old excelled with bat and ball in the five-wicket win over Cookham Dean last week.

Barrett said: “Harry is a quality player, I am not surprised by it.

“There is plenty more to come and it is great to have him on board.”

George Munsey returns after recovering from tonsillitis, replacing Mursaleen Sadiqi.

Horspath are without Pat Foster ahead of their home match against Thame Town.

Foster’s spell of 4-17 helped Horspath convincingly beat Gerrards Cross, who were all out for 78, by eight wickets for a second win in a row.

Captain Will Eason has been delighted with his side’s start.

“We have been excellent,” he said.

“We were excellent on Saturday and obviously having a low total it was crucial we did not let them in the game.”

Wicket-keeper Jasper Davies takes Foster’s place in the side after Robbie Eason donned the gloves last week.

Thame captain Mike Higgs is calling for a reaction after Saturday’s six-wicket loss to Shipton-under-Wychwood.

“It was a disappointing performance all round – a come down from the week before,” he said.

“We’re just looking to get back to that same level of intensity and pressure and if we do we will have a chance.”

Michael Beard returns after illness.

Shipton look to build on last week’s victory when they host Amersham.

Jamie Perkin and Steve Bates come into the side.
